Ideal for adding colour interest to beds, borders, gravel areas and rock gardens, this versatile decorative grass also grows well in pots and containers. As such, it can be used to add height and interest around the garden.
Better known as Magellan Rye Grass, Elymus magellanicus is an ornamental plant with long, slender leaves in an attractive shade of silvery-blue. The leaves arch to form dense mounds of eye-catching grass with small pale green flowers emerging in Summer.
Elymus magellanicus happily grows in most soil types, provided the ground is kept moist but well-drained. It prefers full sun and is fully hardy against cold Winter temperatures - although pot-grown grasses may need some added protection.
Magellan Rye Grass is native to the mountains of South America. It is easy to grow, slow to spread, and requires very little attention to thrive.
