The “Glacier Blue” is an evergreen perennial that will add a year-round exotic touch to your drier garden beds. It is a columnar grower of a low to medium height.
The foliage is quite distinct with long, leaves that have the central-most portions in a deep green and framed by a creamy white fringe. The conical, pale-yellow flowers with bracts appear on top of a stalk that rises from the uppermost, central part of the plant.
After the regular growing season and to encourage the following seasons growth, it is suggested that the plant’s shoots be cut back to the ground.
As it is relatively compact, it makes a great garden patio and container plant. However, be aware that all parts of the plant are considered toxic if ingested.
It is somewhat hardy, down to -10°C, but can be used in pots or tubs and then more easily transferred indoors during the colder months. Although it does prefer full sun, it has been known to do well in sunnier areas that are partially shaded. And this plant does prefer to be sheltered.
